The children of Chertsey Nursery School were treated to a visit from Ivor Goodsite on Thursday. The friendly builder visited the school to demonstrated to the children his protective clothing and talk about the dangers of building sites. He also gave out goody bags to the children with posters, crayons and stickers to remind them of his visit.
Ivor then took the children outside to view the site next to their school where work is due to commence later this month.
Ivor Goodsite is the character developed by the Considerate Constructors Scheme to warn children of the dangers of sites and to encourage young people to consider construction as a career.
The visit and talk was organised by A Plus New Homes who are redeveloping the former Freemantles School site next to the Chertsey Nursery School, after planning consent was granted last month.
A Plus New Homes has been working closely with the school and have inserted viewing panels along the boundary to the nursery school to allow the children to see the various stages of construction.
John Allan, Managing Director of A Plus New Homes said “We are pleased to have been able to visit Chertsey Nursery School and educate children about the risks and explain why sites should not be seen as playgrounds. Sadly some children are attracted to construction sites without realising that they are actually very dangerous places to be if you are not wearing the correct safety equipment and appropriately supervised. ”
